RE: DisneyWorld fans please come in.

We were there for nine days in April and visited every park at least once. And nine days wasn't enough. I could spend nine days in each park! But, if I only had one day my advice would be as follows:
With kids 0-12 = Magic Kingdom
With kids 13-18 = Hollywood Studios
Just Adults = Epcot
Have fun!

River Country Campground in Gadsden is a great place to stay. It is about 45 minutes from the track. www.rivercountrycampground.com

RE: A challenge has been issued!

Thanks everyone for the prayers. My FIL needs them right now.
We did start our trip Friday evening, but had to cut it short when a family friend came and told us that my FIL was having seizures in the ICU.
I will post more details of the trip later.

RE: A challenge has been issued!

Vapor_Trails,
Yes, I am a "Newbie" on this site, but didn't mean to be rude by not following up with the post. My FIL had a major Intestinal blockage and had to have emergency surgery earlier this week. I have been helping my DW with that. As of this morning, the trip is still up in the air. We should know by tomorrow morning. If you don't see me post this weekend, assume that we are on our survival trip.
And to answer your earlier post....we will take tackle, but will have to get creative regarding bait. I know of several spots where the night crawlers like to hangout.

My DW can spray her hair with hairspray and set off the LP detector. Makes me wonder about what she is putting in her hair. Mmmm?

RE: A challenge has been issued!

Cheat? Never! ........Although the thought has crossed our minds. Mom and I WILL win this fair and square. We have age and wisdom over the boys. I don't want to crush the boys, but would like to teach them a few of life's lessons. I believe it will be an educational experience for all of us.

RE: A challenge has been issued!

Thanks for everyone's interest in our families little adventure. I will post an update as to the results of our outing, but I tend to agree with campingrandma, barring any unforseen catastrophies, we will all be winners! Sometimes it's good to get back to the "basics". It can revive one's appreciation for where we are in life. It's good for the soul! I can't wait for Memorial Day weekend!

A challenge has been issued!

During a recent family meeting we were discussing our camping plans for Memorial Day weekend. We have several acres on a nearby lake and boondock there several times a year. I don’t know if our boys have become bored with the “Luxury” camping in the MH (Fridge, TV, DVD, Microwave, running water, etc.) or have been watching too many “Survival Man” episodes, but they have challenged Mom and myself to a survival camping trip at the lake. Parents vs. the boys. Our equipment will be limited to just tents, sleeping bags and mess kits. Our food will be limited to a rationed portion of fresh vegtables that we’ve grown in our garden at home and whatever we’re able catch, trap or forage around the lake. No coolers, grills, stoves, lanterns or electonic devices of any kind. Any ideas on how we can determine a winner? BTW……..We will take the MH with us, but lock the door until a winner is declared. (My DW’s idea)

RE: Big Rig?

"Big" is a relative term. Our first year camping we had a 8'x10' tent. The next year we graduated up to the "Big Rig"....a three room dome tent.

RE: Anyone know anything about these two Coleman grills?

I have the one on top. Works great for searing things fast. But if you want to slow cook anything, forget it. Even with the regulator turned all the way down, it is still too hot. It will do for now, but I will look for something different next time.

RE: Branson to Interstate 40

I traveled that route by car a few years ago. It wasn't a bad drive. Would not hesitate to use this route in my 36' HR MH.

RE: Fridge blew out

Sorry to hear about your reefer. But whatever you decide to do, don't but a cooling unit from http://www.rvrefrigerationservices.com located in Canada. After three months of phone calls, e-mails, etc. I am still waiting on a refund for a cooling unit that was supposedly shipped twice. But both times they were unable to produce a valid tracking number from FedEx or DHL. At first they seemed very reputable, but after dealing with their empty promises for months now, I am extremely disappointed with there professionalism.

RE: Experience with kickdown HWH levelers

I have them on my 1999 36' HR Endeavor. They work like a champ. The only thing I've ever had to do other than check the fluid level is last year I had one spring break. I went ahead and replaced them all.

RE: Do you camp close to home-same town?

We camp at a CG just five miles from our house all the time. The CG is on a river with the majority of sites on the water with piers. We love to go there and fish. They also have a pool for the kids. We usually take our car also and if staying more than a night or two will go home to check on and feed our pets. There is a mall and restraunts within walking distance. My DD-7 just loves to "Camp at the Mall".lol

RE: Refrigerator repair/replace DIY???

Dark Green HD Dmax I saw the same ad almost three months ago and ordered one. After a month still did not receive the unit. After multiple phone calls, I finally had to buy a new reefer elsewhere. I am still trying to get a refund on the cooling unit that was never shipped. JMHO....Don't mess with discount cooling units. Buy a whole new reefer and be done with it.

RE: Disney Dinner passes?

My family and I just got back from 10 days at the Fort. We did not opt for the dining package. We carried about $200 worth of groceries with us and ate out three times while we were there. We ate at Mexico in Epcot, Rainforest Cafe at AK and and Planet Holywood. All three meals and drinks cost less than $400 for our family of 5. We would usually eat a good breakfast at the MH and then go to the parks mid morning. We would then return to the MH mid-afternoon for a rest and late lunch/early dinner. After that would head back to the parks until closing. The whole 10 days we only spent about $600 total on food. That calculates to $12/day/person. We never went hungry and more times than not had more than we could eat. In fact even with all the walking my DW and both managed to gain a couple pounds each. Unless you are big time into eating alot I wouldn't bother with the dining plan.

RE: Using Cruise control to save fuel

I don't believe that using the CC will save fuel. I use it to give my throttle pedal foot a break. Like sepisllib posted the CC's "Brain" can't anticipate the hills and dales like the "Pilot" can.

RE: Firearms??

I carry spare parts, hoses, belts, oil, ATF etc. Just in case that I need them while on the road. I carry a tool box with various tools that I might need in the event of a breakdown. I carry a spare tire and jack in case I have a flat. The way I see it is that a pistol is just another tool that would come in mighty handy if certain circumstances should arise. Do I carry one? Don't ask and I won't tell.

RE: MH registration costs~how much for yours?

In Alabama the tags are weight based for MH's. I just paid $450.00 for a 18-26K lb. tag for my 1995 36' Holiday Rambler.
